Language actvities based around a pirate theme

Objective:

To allow students with intellectual/physical impairment to participate in language activities based around the pirate theme.

Activity Outline:

Students cover many aspects of the pirate theme for half of first term.
The Clicker Grids aim to be more exploratory than for creating written composition. The 3 grids in the pirate folder include:

1. About pirates – click on a picture to hear spoken information about pirate things.


2. Pirate poem – click on sentences to create a poem about a pirate.


3. Island – Read instructions to find out where the treasure is on the island.

The “About pirates” and “Pirate poem” grid can be modified to link with Clicker Writer in order to enable students to write and print their work.

Materials/Equipment:

• IBM computer + printer
• Mouse or mouse alternative (trackball/joystick)
• Clicker 4 software
