Boardmaker Studio has been around now for a little while now and it really is creating a buzz in schools and services across Australia and the rest of the world. Its no wonder really, when the ready made studio starter templates and gadgets save people oodles of time. Dynavox Mayer-Johnson have invested a lot of their time to save yours! You can now concentrate on individualising the content – rather than spending time on the programming and “how to”.
Being a traditional Boardmaker nut I must admit that I did find the transition from the previous model of Boardmaker to Studio a little daunting at first – but when I let go of trying to do things the traditional way, I realised that Studio does make complete sense – and in fact, is so much quicker and easier!
You see they now have a technique which is called “edit in place” to populate buttons and trust me, once you know this simple step, individualising activities is a breeze!
As an experiment, I timed myself developing a sequencing activity using moveable buttons in Boardmaker Plus which took 4 and a half minutes, and did the same activity using the Studio Starter Template and it took me 38 seconds!
There are now well over 300 Studio Starter Templates which include onscreen books, calendars, sorting and writing activities, games and graphs – just to name a few. These not only save you time but give you ideas of how to use Studio to its full potential with the people you support.
The latest free update for Boardmaker Studio provides more than 50 new Studio Starter templates and is now available from the Dashboard of your current version of Studio. If you want to try Boardmaker Studio you can download a trial version direct from the Mayer-Johnson website. If you want to see it in action – why not sign up for one of our free online training sessions? We will step you through some of the basics and show you some of the templates and gadgets that I have been raving about.
We are also lucky enough to have Stephanie from the US coming to our Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference to do a full day pre-conference workshop on Boardmaker Studio – I will be definitely be there – maybe I will see some of you there too?!
