In collaboration with Aboriginal author Karen Reys, we have adapted her unique story book Gandjau Wangai to produce an accessible CD-ROM that all children can enjoy. The story title means “Hungry Snake” and the story line follows the snake’s interaction with other Australian animals as it seeks something to eat.

Karen has been involved in extensive research to revive the Badjala language, the traditional language of Aboriginals from Fraser Island, QLD.

The Gandjau Wangai Kit includes:

  • Story CD ROM
    • Karen Reys’ story, Gandjau Wangai, read in both Badjala language and English
    • Information and real photographs of the animal characters
    • Information about the author and her work
    • A glossary of the Badjala language
    • Interactive quizzes
    • Access by mouse, IntelliKeys or switch
    • A copy of Karen’s book included with every CD
  • HandiActivities CD-ROM
    • 20 interactive writing, reading, word study and mathematics activities
    • Fully accessible
  • Gandjau Wangai Story Book

Their company, Hands On Concepts, was formed in 1994 when they began creating and publishing resources for other teachers.

Alison and Nadja are curriculum authors who have been published internationally and nationally through companies such as IntelliTools Inc (USA), Inclusive Technology (UK), McGraw-Hill Book Co.
