If you are looking for content-rich literacy resources for early readers, then these sets of the Clicker Books series are perfect for your classroom.

Overview of Clicker Books

  • Provides both on-screen and printed story books, together with a host of Clicker literacy activities for the lower primary classroom
  • Enchanting stories, ingeniously written and illustrated by children’s author Peter Williamson, will ignite the imagination of your entire class.

Benefits

Engage every student with a whole-class reading exercise

Capture the attention of all your students with the talking, on-screen Clicker Books, which are perfect for use on your whiteboard. Focus on particular words by using the highlight tool, or have any part of the text read aloud. There are buttons to hear the story spoken by the narrator, and to hear just the dialogue spoken by a character on the page.

Reinforce reading skills

In addition to the full version of the story, there is also an easier ‘Read it Yourself‘ version that is told in fewer pages with simple sentences. This focuses on the main points of the story so that young readers can read independently. There is also a full colour printed book for guided reading away from the computer.

Develop literacy skills

All Clicker Books come with an extensive range of activities that develop skills in spelling, punctuation, sentence building and comprehension. There is even a facility for children to create their own books. The activities are tied to key literacy targets, and many of them can also be printed and used away from the computer too.

What activities are included?

Each CD includes all of the following Clicker activities:

Word activities reinforce the recognition of high-frequency words, as well as their spelling. Activities with Clicker Writer enable children to click on letters to build words.
Sentence
Sentence building activity from an Archie book. Click to see larger image.
In these activities, children click on words in the correct order to build a sentence. There are additional activities that reinforce punctuation skills.
Comprehension
A comprehension quiz activity from a Gamba book. Click to see larger image.
Comprehension activities reinforce understanding of the story. In some of the activities, children are given questions and they either click on the correct answer, or link to a writing activity that lets them click on words to write the answer. Other activities let children retell the story.
Composition
Composition activity from a Daisy book. Click to see larger image.
In composition activities, children click on words and phrases to build their own text based on the story. The composition activities vary from book to book. In some books, children can write captions for pictures; in others, they can build a piece of poetry, write a story or compose a piece of writing about themselves.
Book making activities

A version of the book with pictures but no text enables you to write the stories with your children. You can do this on-screen, and Clicker will speak whatever you write – or you can print the screens to write a story away from the computer.
