Connect your AlphaSmart device to a computer or printer

The Dana, NEO Family device or AlphaSmart 3000 can connect to any computer. The only difference is the type of cable or infrared pod used. If you plan to use a cable to transfer information from your Dana, NEO Family device, AlphaSmart 3000 or AlphaSmart 3000 IR, please indicate when ordering if you need a Macintosh, PC, or USB connection cable.

AlphaSmart Printer Cables

The AlphaSmart devices such as Dana or NEO can print directly to most printers using the USB Transfer/Updater cable. On the AlphaSmart 3000, you can use any serial printer cable if printing to standard serial printers, however you will need an AlphaSmart parallel printer cable if printing to parallel printers.

Note: At this time the AlphaSmart 3000 does not print directly to USB printers.

SmartApplet Updater Cables

The AlphaSmart Updater Cable is used to install SmartApplets from your computer – onto your AlphaSmart 3000 or NEO. This applies to the:

• Co:Writer SmartApplet
• KeyWords SmartApplet
• Inspiration Outliner SmartApplet
• AlphaQuiz SmartApplet, etc.

A variety of Updater Cables are available. Please note that the USB Transfer/Updater Cable comes standard with all SmartApplets purchased from Spectronics.

• USB Transfer/Updater Cable to transfer data from either a Macintosh or a PC with a USB port to Dana, NEO or AlphaSmart 3000. (Comes standard with all SmartApplets)
• PC Updater Cable for Windows computers to transfer data/SmartApplets from a PC to an AlphaSmart 3000 (using the PC serial port).
• Macintosh ADB Updater Cable to transfer data/SmartApplets from a Macintosh computer to an AlphaSmart 3000 (using the ADB port).
