Clevy 2 keyboard

For children in early childhood settings or primary schools …

This innovative and attractive keyboard is essential in the education of writing and computer skills in primary schools. It anticipates on the growing interest for the development of the motor system connected to the education of handwriting. Moreover, this attractively designed keyboard stimulates young children to get acquainted with computers in an educational way.

The keys on the Clevy keyboard have cheerful colours, and the keyboard has a clear, child-friendly layout; these stimulate young children to become familiar with the computer in an instructive and responsible manner.

Keyboard skills are learned through play. The keyboard is suitable for children aged 3 to 8. With easily recognisable lower-case handwriting letters, the Clevy keyboard complements primary school writing lessons. The keyboard’s sturdy construction means that it can withstand hard knocks!

Research has proven that people who are physically disabled could also benefit from the Clevy keyboard with its larger keys. Using the optional Clevy keyguard, people with physical disabilities that affect motor skills can easily press one key at a time. The sturdy plastic cover fits perfectly on top of the Clevy keyboard, helping to prevent users from accidentally pressing two keys at the same time.

Features

  • More logical keyboard disposition (the ESC and the ENTER keys have been moved to their usual position and the SHIFT key has been made bigger which makes these keys easier to find for people with low vision)

  • A better contrast between the colours of the keys and those of the letters makes the Clevy 2 keyboard even more compatible to the needs of people with visual impairment
  • The colours on the keyboard are fresher and more appealing; the optical difference between vowels and consonants has also been emphasised.
  • Hose-proof because of integrated fluid outlets (visible on the bottom of the keyboard)
  • Switch on the base of the keyboard which gives the possibility to switch off key repeat when the user holds down a key representing a certain character.
  • This switch also gives the option to turn on “the function keys tool“ which gives the numerical keys the function of the F1-F10 keys by holding the respective numerical keys down simultaneously with the “f” key

  • Colouring
The cheerful colours make this keyboard attractive to work with, but also assist children by making a clear distinction between the different functional areas of the keyboard.
  • Key size
Clevy’s keys are four times bigger than the ones on a standard keyboard. In addition, the characters on the keys have been enlarged, which makes it easier for children to identify the characters. The larger keys also make it easier for people with special needs to access.
  • Number of keys
The number of keys on the Clevy keyboard is significantly lower than the number of keys on a standard keyboard. Unnecessary keys have been left out in order to focus the students’ attention on their writing and keyboard skills solely.
  • Vertical arrangement
The keys on the Clevy have been arranged vertically, as opposed to the diagonal arrangement that we see on standard keyboards. This vertical organisation of the keys imposes a good positioning of the hands and makes the keyboard look less blurry.
  • Key-top Font
A remarkable feature of the Clevy keyboard (with NSW Handwriting Font) is the lower-case handwriting font of the characters (see below), which is similar to the font used in the traditional education of handwriting in New South Wales. The lower-case handwriting keys are thus immediately recognisable for children. On the other model of the Clevy, standard lower-case lettering is used.

  • Solid and robust construction
The Clevy keyboard is 100 times stronger than a regular keyboard. The keys are made of switches instead of membranes. In addition, all switches are connected to a metal plate.
  • Compatible with both Windows and Mac
The Clevy keyboard is suitable for both PC and Mac. The keyboard comes with a USB connector, a PS2 adapter and the Clevy function keys tool CD. The software CD can be installed on your computer to use the function keys with the Clevy keyboard.

Also available is the new Clevy Keyboard Glove to protect the Clevy Keyboard from dirt and moisture.

Background in keyboarding education

When children first learn how to write, they do this the old fashioned way, that is, with pencil and paper. In fact, throughout their entire primary school careers, students are expected to develop a flawless style when it comes to their handwriting. This explains why this way of writing still receives a great deal of attention.

A tendency of recent years in the education of writing is the attention for children’s motor system, which is related to learning how to write with a keyboard. This trend is not very surprising, since 95% of all texts that these students will produce in their life will be written on a keyboard. It is therefore important that primary school teachers strive to the best possible balance between the education of handwriting and keyboarding abilities. The Clevy keyboard will help them fulfil this task.

WARRANTY: A 1-year limited manufacturer’s warranty is offered on these Clevy keyboards.
