LIFE (Learning Independence through Functional Experiences) is a 208-page book based on stories and activities designed to help teenagers practise skills necessary for community or independent living. All stories and activities are symbolised for non-speaking students. The book has 8 units covering the following topics:
- Learning about me
- Cooking at home
- Dressing for work
- Where shall I live?
- Eating out
- Health and safety
- Shopping
- Looking for a job
Included with each unit are coordinating activities and games, such as goals and objectives, vocabulary words, maths activities, sentence building, book ideas, learning games, application information, independent learning activities, and more. At the end of each unit, there is a “grand finale” to practise the new skills in a community setting.
