Activities

Mouse MoveexpandClick to collapse

Mouse Move introduces a mouse to young children. Wherever the mouse moves, so does the object on-screen. This teaches the cause and effect of mouse movement through a range of scenarios and degrees. 18 activities with animated rewards gradually build up skills.

scribble 1scribble 2 A child’s first drawing activity is to scribble. The same approach is used here, to discover what happens when the mouse is moved. This also introduces the characters used throughout the suite.
shadows 1shadows 2 Move the mouse to take the character to his shadow. Five levels of activity work first though horizontal and then vertical movement. Visual rewards and sounds mark success.
target 1target 2These activities work within scenes. Where do you think the character should go? With 10 screens across these two activities, there is plenty of scope for conversation.
tiles 1tiles 2Clean away all the tiles to see what will happen. This introduces the mouse pointer rather than a character.
reveal 1reveal 2In this activity the mouse pointer must ‘bump into’ the shadows to reveal all the objects which then are shown in their scene.
maze 1maze 2There are also 6 graded maze activities in Mouse Move. These are designed for later use, when the mouse skills are more established.

Mouse Click separates the mouse pointer from target, and introduces left click. Each set of activities has between 3 and 5 screens, introducing different scenarios to stimulate conversation. Includes 14 graded activities using mouse movements and left button click.

click boxclick charactersThere is minimal mouse movement in these activities. The focus is on clicking a single large image: the box in the first activity and a character in the second.
click animals 1click animals 2 Click on the animals to see what happens. In the first activity the animals move into the picture – stepping from 1 to 5 animals through the scenes. In the second set the animals are already in their picture, and animate away.
click fruitclick tortoiseSimilar to the ‘bump’ activity in Mouse Move, this time click on the objects. The other activity illustrated here is a sequence where the characters wake up and go to work, returning home at night – ideal for weaving a story.
click stars 1click stars 2Click on the stars to remove the tiles. when the screen is clear the picture will animate.
click boatsclick picturesThree activities to find where one of the characters is hiding, with increasing visual complexity. In the second activity illustrated here one of these magic pictures will transform into a scene – discuss why one is a bit different.
click musiciansclick snapClick on a picture of a musician to hear an example of that instrument. Learn to identify the sounds from 15 orchestral instruments. The last activity is a matching game. Find the pair.

Mouse Drag builds on the concepts of the earlier activities, but this time demands more mouse control through dragging with the mouse button held down. At this level the tasks also include visual discrimination and sorting. Includes 12 activities to practise dragging items on the screen, involving higher levels of visual and language work.

drag animalsdrag silhouettes Drag the animal or character to its shadow.
Similar concepts but new mouse action.
drag animalsdrag car to picture

Two activities to drag an animal or object to its shadow. More complex visual backgrounds and in the second of the pair, some incorrect distractors.

drag paintbrushdrag to setDrag a paintbrush onto a silhouette to colour it.
The other activity shown here is about completing a set.
drag to 1 picturedrag to 3 picturesWhich object should go into which picture? Discuss the names of the objects and the pictures.
drag setsort coloursTwo sorting activities. In the first, drag the similar objects that belong in the picture, and in the second, sort things by colour into the correct frames.
drag rubbishdrag puzzleUncover objects in the scene by dragging the tile with trash into the dustbin.
The final activity is a set of jigsaw type puzzles.
