NEO Manager allows teachers to easily configure and manage an entire classroom set of up to 30 devices. NEO Manager Software streamlines the tasks that you do everyday – from retrieving and printing files from students’ devices, to updating them with software and word processing files, to performing administrative tasks.
NEO Manager can simultaneously manage an entire classroom of NEOs or NEO 2s so you can:
- Retrieve, save and print all AlphaWord Plus word processing files from up to 30 devices at once
- Configure preferences and device settings on student devices
- Simultaneously install new SmartApplet applications and files on all student devices

The NEO Manager software installs on the teacher’s Windows based or Macintosh computer and, when used with an AlphaHub (which comes with SmartOption Mobile Labs), gives you the widest range of options for managing your NEO devices in the classroom.
NEO Manager 3.5 (formerly ASM 2) has the added functions most requested by teachers:
What’s new in NEO Manager 3.5
- NEO Text2Speech provides confirmation that the device is in use, improves handling of long passages and reads linked files.
- Updated the NEO operating system to version 3.9.
- Enhancements were made to the Renaissance Wireless Server to improve performance when connecting to Renaissance Place applications.
- Added support for anonymous and authenticated proxies.
- Added support for Macintosh OS 10.6.x (Snow Leopard).
- Added support for Microsoft Windows 7.
- Accelerated Reader SmartApplet has been updated to support taking of Spanish quizzes on the NEO 2.
- Responder SmartApplet has been updated to include support for enhanced (High ASCII) characters to allow teachers to send Spanish and other enhanced characters to the NEO 2 and to allow students to submit short answer responses with enhanced characters to AccelTest v3.3 and the 2Know! Toolbar.
- NEO Text2Speech has been updated in the following ways:
- When a NEO Text2Speech device is powered on, a red light will blink approximately every 10 seconds until the device is powered off.
- An alert has been added when the NEO is powered and Text 2 Speech is enabled stating, “Text to Speech Enabled”.
- A ‘T’ will appear in the lower right corner of AlphaWord Plus if Text to Speech has been enabled but a NEO Text2Speech device has not been detected.
- User instructions on the text to speech menu (accessed by pressing ctrl-J) have been modified to more clearly explain how to turn Text to Speech on and off on the NEO.
- Updated so larger passages of text over a screen in length will now scroll so students can see the words highlighted as the words are being read to the student.
- Updated so that common abbreviations such as Mr., Mrs, Dr., etc. will now be spoken as mister, missus, and doctor.
- Students can now use cmd-M to read linked files on the NEO.
- The slow voice speed option has been updated to increase the time between words, further slowing down the speed.
- Updates to the content filter.
- The female voice option has been removed.
- Select just the files (by number or device) that you want to view, print or save
- Send specific files or setting to one NEO or a group of NEOs – for example, send different story starters to different groups of students
- Print all or selected files with a single command
- Maintain security by setting passwords in three different areas, including changing of the administrative password
- Install additional SmartApplets on all NEOs in one operation
- Collect KeyWords data and generate reports at the student, group, or class level
- Disable Spellchecker for testing purposes
- Send custom dictionaries with curriculum-specific words to all NEOs.
