Teach Me to Talk
by SoftTouch
Do you have students who aren't talking?
Many students have a difficult time learning to speak. Some will need to hear the sounds over and over before they can produce the word. Others may need a reinforcer to engage their interest before they can listen to the word. Some need REAL pictures while others will need augmentative communication devices.
Teach Me to Talk is a language and speech stimulation program that enables students to focus on individual words. Many students need to hear a word repeated, up to twenty or more times, before they can produce it themselves. Teach Me to Talk provides this opportunity in four different learning activities. Vocabulary groups include animals, clothing, food, household items, transportation and words that begin with b, p and m.
Students can choose from a variety of noun groups and teachers can vary the number of choices presented to each student.
| Teach Me to Talk – develops word, symbol and text recognition This activity is a springboard for the student to learn to speak the word. There are 150 real pictures. When a picture is chosen, it appears on a clear background with musical interludes, movement, written word and spoken word. It culminates by morphing to the corresponding black-and-white Mayer-Johnson PCS symbol. | ![]() |
| Story Time – uses rhyme, rhythm and repetition to help students learn language and develop emerging literacy skills Takes some of the nouns and puts them in to four line poetry. This helps the student hear the word in the midst of a sentence structure. It also works on the student’s auditory discrimination skills. | ![]() |
| Puzzle Play – develops problem solving and part/whole visual skills as well as mouse and access skills in 2, 3, 4, 8 and 16 piece puzzles | ![]() |
| Switch on Picts – develops vocabulary awareness When the student presses the switch, mouse button or IntelliKeys USB a different word is displayed with music and movement. | ![]() |

“Over 5 years ago my son with autism could not speak a word, until we found Teach Me to Talk. Within a very short time my son was saying single words, and labelling things around the house. We credit this program with giving our child the beginning of his voice. Thank you!!” – John and Tricia Polchowski, Fairport, NY, USA
