Use visual discrimination skills to help develop touch or mouse skills
Touch! is a program which uses visual discrimination skills to help develop touch or mouse skills. The user has to touch or click on colourful shapes to see/hear the reward.
It uses four simple shapes: a square, a circle, a triangle and a star. Each shape can be small, medium or large and be one of six colours: black, white, yellow, red, green and blue.
The main idea is to touch or click on one or more of the shapes. So it can be a simple, visual task, a discrimination task or even a task involving timing – touch or click when the shape “peeps” out.
The rewards take the form of shapes building up on the screen. For example, if the learner had touched a large square, a pattern of large squares would build up on the screen. Each reward has accompanying music. The music differs for each shape and has subtle variations within so as not to be overly repetitive.
For those who are musically inclined, the music for the squares has four beats; the music for the triangle has three beats; the music for the stars has five beats.
The pointer can be turned off altogether; it can appear small or it can appear large, in a variety of colours and can be made to flash.
